The NL West is always a competitive division, but we thought we'd be talking about a Giants Dodgers duel at the top. Instead its the Colorado Rockies who reign atop the NL West and the Giants are dead last. They'll meet up tonight in the first game of a four game series at Coors and it looks like a good one for the home team.
The Rockies have beat the Giants in six of seven games this season and they've already beat Matt Moore, the Giants starter tonight, twice in the season. Moore has not had a good campaign for the Giants and is the weakest starter in the rotation.
The Rockies will counter with Jeff Hoffman who has been a very pleasant surprise, as have been the Rockies throughout the first half of the season. Hoffman has a record of 4-0 right now and an ERA of 2.33 The Rockies are tied for first with the Dodgers and they currently hold only a half game lead over the Diamondbacks.
The Giants are a very distant 15.5 games back with the Padres sandwiched in between them at 14.5 back. The top of the division is very tough to predict right now. Its easy to side with the Dodgers as they have all the talent in the world, but right now its a three horse race and its anyone's to win.
I think the Rockies win the first of the series tonight.
